Our Journey

Sera was established when metal halide and halogen lamps were standard. Since then, we have developed our products to meet your needs while focusing on the environmental impact of manufacturing and logistics. We continually research sustainable technologies and follow global efforts to reduce the lighting industry’s environmental footprint.

Refurbishment and Recycling

Our light fittings use aluminium, which can be recycled repeatedly to make new products. Through our buy-back and refurbishment scheme, you can return old fittings to be upgraded with the latest, more efficient components. Hundreds of metal halide fixtures have been converted to LED at minimal cost, reducing both your carbon footprint and environmental impact.

Sustainable Partnerships

We source components locally where possible to cut transport impact and purchase larger quantities to reduce shipments. We are members of Lumicom, ensuring unrecyclable materials are processed responsibly, and we support Ecologi, a community helping businesses take climate action. Our contribution has funded 31 projects, planted 4,012 trees, and avoided 311.09t CO2e emissions.

Circularity

Sustainability goes beyond energy efficiency. We design lighting that can be repaired, upgraded, and refurbished to extend its working life. Where Sera fittings remain structurally sound, key components such as LED modules, drivers, and controls can be replaced or upgraded.

This reduces waste and embodied carbon when compared to full replacement, while helping you protect your original investment and support refurbishment-led and ESG-focused projects without compromising performance.

Sustainability

Alongside reducing impact through circular design and refurbishment, we support verified climate and nature projects through our partnership with Ecologi. These projects focus on carbon reduction and habitat restoration, helping address the environmental impact that cannot be avoided within the lighting lifecycle.

Our approach follows recognised environmental management principles and is aligned with ISO 14001. This provides a structured way to reduce impact, stay aware of regulations, and improve environmental performance over time.

Product Recovery Programme

Sera works with Lumicom to ensure end-of-life luminaires and components are managed in line with WEEE regulations. Redundant fittings are collected, dismantled, and processed correctly, with materials recovered wherever possible and waste diverted from landfill through compliant recovery routes.

This gives you confidence that lighting removed from site is handled responsibly, transparently, and in line with current environmental legislation, supporting project compliance and responsible end-of-life management.

Packaging

We have reduced plastic packaging wherever possible and use paper and cardboard alternatives across our deliveries. Unwanted boxes are shredded on site and reused as protective filler, giving materials a second life and reducing waste.

Parcels are sealed with paper tape and products are wrapped in paper or cardboard packaging wherever possible, ensuring each order reflects our commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Recycling

Aluminium is central to Sera’s approach to sustainable lighting. It can be recycled repeatedly without losing quality, making it ideal for long-lasting products. Our Unipro track lighting system is made from recycled aluminium, reducing the need for new raw materials.

When our lighting reaches the end of its life, it can be recycled responsibly. This ensures valuable materials are recovered and kept in use for as long as possible, supporting a more sustainable future.

Product Buy Back Scheme

Sera offers a product buy-back scheme for eligible existing fittings. Returned luminaires will be purchased by Sera at £5 per product, allowing them to be carefully assessed and stripped down. Where possible, they are refurbished and returned to use, or processed through compliant recycling routes.

This approach reduces waste, retains the value of materials, and encourages circular practices across lighting projects. It ensures that even at the end of their life, our products continue to contribute to a more sustainable future.

5 Year Warranty

Our three to five year warranty is proof of our commitment to robust engineering and durable design, built on our belief that long lasting products are essential to sustainable business practice.
